Mort Aux Vaches Ekstra Extra

A composition by Krishve, Goodiepal and a lot of other people ...

(If you are afraid of words or just can't abide the thought of reading, scroll past the blurb and get to the juicy stuff right away.)

In response to the invitaition from Gaeoudjiparl Van Den Dobbelsteen to get on the fast train to radical computer music, I produced the work below – to view at your own leisure. Hmm, view below ... That is true in more than one meaning of the word! Be warned: Scenes of explicit humanity appears throughout.

The question is going to be "WHY?WHAT?WHEREFORE?WHERETO?" so let us get that one out of the way before it even gets up on its legs and start running around. Goodiepal states that this new project of his "allows everyone participating to become the co-composer of Goodiepal’s new magnum work Mort Aux Vaches Ekstra". It is a book. Partly. It is a visual music score. Partly. It is mine. Partly.

Goodiepal gave me one of his books. I decided to take possesion of it by making myself one with the book. And if that sounds a bit 1968, we're only just getting started. Well, it may sound like a cliché the size of King Kong's jockstrap but I actually believe that it's a good idea to immerse yourself in the work you do, as well as putting a bit of youself into it. On my – hopefully – successful path away from repetition of former failures and delusions (a vain hope, I know), I try to get to the core of what it is that get me out of bed every day, despite suffering from a serious case of "why-even-bother"-sickness. At the moment I am inclined to think that it is a case of less is more. A situation that facilitates focus.

Very little = a whole lot.

This isn't easy. At least not for me. An addict to moremoremore.
To get back to the matter at hand: I chose to put myself into the book. As naked as the day I was born. Or hatched out – different accounts of that story are circulating.
I view it as sampling. Get stuff. Take it apart. Put it together in a new way. Preferably in a funny/wrong/exciting way that shines new light on the objects used.
If something makes you feel uncomfortable, embarassed or unsure of where it might lead you, you are bound to experience something new. Maybe even learn something. I felt like that doing this.

It was done very quickly using the book and incorporating two vinyl records given to me by GvdD. Feel free to write me with any comments. Enjoy. Or don't :-)
